Patriotic
Santa
A
couple of years ago, an idea for a Patriotic Santa began to
form in my mind -- Finally, a few months ago, I decided to
put it together. I
was going to call him:
"Dapper
Sam the Santa Man"
Then
September 11, 2001 came....
For
several days I was numb, as was our whole nation, and
indeed, most of the world.
My small way of healing began with the overwhelming need to
create my Patriotic Santa.
The name I originally chose is now inappropriate, so I will
simply call him: "Patriotic
Santa".
He,
of course, looks like Uncle Sam. He carries the
United States Flag proudly.
His
antique cravat represents the long history of our creative
nation.
His
bag is lined with a quilt pattern, representing the many
different faces in our multi-ethnic populace.
In
his bag, are a Policeman, firetruck, and ambulance.
The
paper doll chain represents Americans holding hand-to-hand
to overcome this trying time.
The
garland of stars are for all of the souls who are now in our
heavens.
The
purple heart is the bravery shown by our heros.
The
teddy bear is to comfort a broken spirit.
The
sparklers are to symbolize the spark of hope for a better
world for our future.
The
Angel is to watch over all of us.
This
Patriotic Santa has sold, and the entire proceeds went to
the New York Firefighter's 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund
